Dr. Chinna Moulana Trust - About

Dr.Sheik Chinna Moulana was a living legend. He was known not only for his knowledge of music and wizardry in his chosen musical instrument, but also for his humility and gentle demeanor. He is fondly remembered by his generations of fans, who continue to be mesmerized by the Sweetness and greatness of his Nadhaswaram play.

His contribution towards the popularization of this auspicious instrument “Nadhaswaram” at a global level is so great that it devolves upon us to perpetuate his memory in the most appropriate manner. As the ardent admirers and true rasikas of this great vidhwan, his family and the circle of friends and disciples, with the active support of the scions of this famous family Shri.S.Kasim, we have taken upon ourselves the responsibility of starting a Trust in his name  viz. “Dr.Chinnamoulana Memorial Trust “.

The trust was formed modestly on April 13th, 2000 during the first Anniversary of the Maestro. Dr.V.K.Viswanathan, a serious connoisseur of Carnatic music, and  a renowned  scientist of NASA, who worked along with Neil Armstrong, was a close friend and  an ardent admirer of  Dr.Sheik Chinna Moulana,  and he played the key role in establishing the Trust.

During the first anniversary on April 13, 2000 Shri.K.V.Narayanaswamy unveiled the portrait of Dr.Sheik Chinna Moulana and presented his musical homage to the Nadhaswaram maestro.

The Trust started to present Nadhaswaram instruments to two deserving students and purses to two senior / indigent Nadhaswaram/Thavil artistes during the successive years. These two philanthropic gestures are widely acclaimed by everybody. Apart from these gestures the Trust is also organizing music concerts by veteran-popular artistes during the Anniversary/Aradhana function on the 13rh and 14th April, every year.

The special tenth Anniversary function was held for three days i.e on the 13th 14th, and 15th April, 2010.

All these activities require funding in a big way. Hence the Trust is in the process of creating a corpus fund. Creation of a corpus mainly depends on public munificence. Many philanthropists, well-wishers, music lovers and corporate are willingly coming forward to help the Trust in this noble cause. It may also be mentioned here that donations to the Trust are exempt U/S 80G of income tax act 1961.
